Here is a simple recipe for Indian style Spicy Dal and Rice:

Ingredients:

1 cup yellow lentils (Dal)

1 medium onion, chopped

1 tablespoon ginger paste

1 tablespoon garlic paste

1 tablespoon cumin seeds

1 tablespoon coriander seeds

1 tablespoon garam masala

1 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

salt to taste

2 cups water

1 cup basmati rice

Quantity Ingredients
1 cup Yellow lentils (Dal)
1 medium onion Chopped
1 tablespoon Ginger paste
1 tablespoon Garlic paste
1 tablespoon Cumin seeds
1 tablespoon Coriander seeds
1 tablespoon Garam masala
1 tablespoon Red chili powder (optional)
2 tablespoon vegetable oil salt to taste
2 cups Water
1 cup Basmati rice

 

Instructions:

 

Rinse the lentils and soak them in water for 15 minutes.

Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and coriander seeds and fry for 1 minute until fragrant.

Add the onion and fry until it becomes translucent. Add the ginger paste and garlic paste and fry for an additional minute.

Add the soaked lentils to the pot, along with the garam masala, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well to combine.

Add the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the lentils are soft and tender.

While the lentils are cooking, rinse the rice and soak it in water for 15 minutes.

Bring a separate pot of water to a boil, and add the soaked rice. Cook the rice for 10-12 minutes, or until it is fully cooked.

 

Serve the spicy Dal over the cooked Rice, and enjoy!
