lentils (Dal)
1 medium
onion, chopped

garam masala
1 teaspoon
red chili powder (optional)

2 cups water

basmati rice

| 2 cups | Water |
| 1 cup | Basmati rice |
Instructions:
Rinse the
lentils and soak them in water for 15 minutes.
Heat the oil
in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and coriander seeds and
fry for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the
onion and fry until it becomes translucent. Add the ginger paste and garlic
paste and fry for an additional minute.
Add the
soaked lentils to the pot, along with the garam masala, red chili powder, and
salt. Stir well to combine.
Add the
water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for
20-25 minutes, or until the lentils are soft and tender.
While the
lentils are cooking, rinse the rice and soak it in water for 15 minutes.
Bring a
separate pot of water to a boil, and add the soaked rice. Cook the rice for
10-12 minutes, or until it is fully cooked.
Serve the
